Red Eye Spot? Know Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

A sudden red spot on the white of the eye is called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, caused by a burst blood vessel. Straining, coughing, sneezing, rubbing the eye, or high blood pressure can trigger it. It doesn’t affect vision and usually resolves on its own in 1 to 2 weeks. Seek a doctor if there’s pain, swelling, or blurred vision.
