CJI Gavai’s Term Brings 21 Judges From Marginalised Castes
During his six-month tenure, CJI BR Gavai oversaw the appointment of 93 high court judges, including 21 from marginalised castes, 13 from minority communities and 15 women. He also recommended 129 names and saw five judges elevated to the Supreme Court. As India’s second Dalit CJI, Gavai delivered several key verdicts before retiring on November 23.
