Why Some Animals Have Colored Blood, Not Red
While most animals have red blood, some animals have differently colored blood. Blue blood comes from hemocyanin, green from biliverdin, and purple from hemerythrin. These special pigments in their bodies give blood unusual colors. That’s why octopuses, some worms, and certain insects have blood that looks very different from humans.
