Japan will provide 2 Shinkansen train sets (E5 and E3 series) free to India for testing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, aiding data collection on heat and dust. Arriving in 2026, they’ll support future E10 train development. Funded mainly by low-interest yen loans, the project may soon see a new loan framework during PM Modi’s Japan visit.
